Read MoreAva Adode - Beauty Shoot
First of all it was my BIG opportunity to work with the beautiful and talented Ava Adore, professional makeup artist and model, who just so happened to live 10 mins East of me. Ava and I met on facebook through mutual interests.
After serveral attempts to connect earlier in the year, we finally agreed on a date to shoot. We kicked around some ideas before settling on this mirror concept. An hour before the shoot, I drove to Hobby Lobby to find the perfect mirror, texting Ava the whole time about what style frame to get.
Ava was amazing! She was excited and ready to roll. After slight delays and super fast introductions, we were off! Ava had her makeup applied and hair curled in a matter of minutes. I suspended the mirror using on old studio light stand and wasted an unbelievable amount of time adjusting the set. The shoot went up fairly quickly once I found the right camera and strobe settings. Ava's wonderful modeling skills made my job a breeze.
The Marilyn Monroe idea didn't materiallize until the editing stage. The eye contact was stightly off in the shot I selected, giving the impression that Ava was deep in thought. To capitalize on this, I added a ghostly image of Marilyn as if she was being channeled for inspiration on Ava's vintage look.
